Whether you’re looking to share research or creative projects with a wide audience, publicize your campus office’s services to potential users, complete a digital project for a class, or just establish a digital presence with an online portfolio, we can help you get a website up and running to accomplish the task.
Because our goal is to empower, we won’t design, build, or maintain the site for you, but we’ll help you choose the right tools to realize your vision and provide support as you do the work.
Anyone with a Geneseo account can create a personal or collaborative WordPress site on Geneseo OpenLab. If your project requires a different kind of site — say an Omeka site for building exhibits with digitized archival materials, or a Wikipedia-like site for building a collaborative knowledge resource — we can help you set up shared hosting on SUNY Create. There are other options for building and hosting sites: static-site generators like Jekyll or Zola, free hosting from GitHub or other providers, and commercial hosting plans.
We can help you with open-source tools to enhance your website. TimelineJS and StoryMapJS are just two of many.
If you need help with a tool we don’t know about or have limited experience with, ask us about it! We’ll look into it. We’re always eager to expand our own toolkit.
