Collaborate

The heart of our mission is collaboration

We bring people together yearly for Douglass Day, an international celebration of Black history and activism occurring on or near February 14, the date that Frederick Douglass chose to celebrate his birthday. Geneseo students, faculty, and staff join a live stream hosted by the Douglass Day organizers at the Center for Black Digital Research at Penn State and elsewhere, and they participate in collaborative transcription of digitized documents important to Black history and culture. See our local Douglass Day site for photos, videos, and other documentation of our yearly participation in this event.

We’ve brought people together for Ada Lovelace Day, a yearly international celebration of women in STEM. Ada Lovelace was a nineteenth-century mathematician whose thinking about computation anticipated the development of digital computing. Because she was the daughter of British romantic poet George Gordon, Lord Byron, we also look at Ada Lovelace Day as an opportunity to celebrate the connections between STEM and the arts and humanities.

The CDL’s own work is highly collaborative. To help advance digital learning, pedagogy, and scholarship, we work together with instructional designers and programmers in Geneseo’s department of Computing and Information Technology (CIT) and with our colleagues in Milne Library, the Teaching and Learning Center, the Center for Integrative Learning, the Office of Accessibility Services, the Office of Multicultural Affairs, and the Career Design Center.

The CDL contributes to and occasionally leads efforts to develop institutional guidance with respect to campus technology, whether in areas like online learning or artificial intelligence.

The CDL director is a member of Geneseo’s newly formed workforce development team, which advances the college’s equity-centered liberal arts mission through career education and community partnerships.
